OLLI Illinois Olli member, lecturer, and archaeologist, Sarah Wisseman has big news; her fourth archaeological mystery just appeared on Amazon this week. "The House of the Sphinx" is a tense medical mystery as well, involving a smallpox outbreak and bio-terrorist plot that could engulf the entire middle-east region.

OLLI Illinois This researcher says that our brains continue to develop beyond middle age, but our wisdom can be squirreled away in the folds of our neurons. Solution is not so much to acquire new facts, but to "jiggle our synapses" by leaving well trodden pathways behind, confront thoughts contrary to our own, challenge our percepti… ons, leave our comfort zone and try something new. England's beautiful scenery can often be enjoyed best on foot. OLLI instructor Fred Christensen has done some hiking and filming to prepare for the upcoming "Ancient Britain" class, and this lunchtime lecture will give you a chance to enjoy the results. The British have elevated countryside walking to a fine art, and F… red will discuss aspects such as pub lunches, properly latching gates, and using Ordnance Survey maps. From Hadrian's Wall to Stonehenge, and from the wonderful old city of York to Hay-on-Wye, the charming "town of books," these videos will take you far from the midwinter Midwest.
Instructor: Popular OLLI instructor Fred Christensen is a former history instructor at the University of Kentucky and assistant professor of military science at the University of Illinois. He teaches noncredit classes in history and related fields for Parkland College and the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian in Evanston.

According to Ken Burns, national parks are special places that play an important role in American national identity. A few forward-looking heroes saw that these beautiful places would be set aside. They are now protected by the rangers of the National Park Service. Many people develop close, deep relationships with the… wild spaces of their favorite park. Really? We'll take a closer look.
Instructor: Robert Pahre is Professor of Political Science and Director of the European Union Center. He teaches courses on international relations, the European Union, and environmental policy. He has published in political science, economics, sociology, philosophy, library science, and linguistics. He has two current research projects, one on Euroskeptic political parties in Europe, and the other on transboundary management problems surrounding US and Canadian national parks. (We also hear that he studies politics in places that he likes to visit and that he is not very good at doing what he is told. But those are merely rumors.)

You cannot see a twisted pink ribbon without thinking of breast cancer, especially if you are female and mid-life or older. In this lecture, Dr. Evans will bring us up to date on research related to breast cancer, body composition and health. Research indicates that weight status has major implications for both the ris… k of breast cancer and the prognosis after diagnosis and treatment. Physical activity is also an important lifestyle factor in both the risk and prognosis of breast cancer, and we have learned that quality of life and fatigue are significant issues for breast cancer survivors. Please join us as we discuss the basics of breast cancer, in particular as they relate to weight status and physical activity. It is important for both men and women to understand that lifestyle choices such as nutrition and physical activity can have major positive impacts on both initial risk and the psychological and physical health of breast cancer survivors.
